Overview

Tucked away in the bustling heart of Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Toriya Japanese BBQ T-Lab offers an authentic journey into the world of Japanese yakitori and more. As a dedicated yakitori restaurant, Toriya excels at bringing the simple yet complex flavors of grilled skewers into sharp focus. Its standout dish, the beef tongue, perfectly captures the delicate balance of texture and taste, a testament to their mastery of traditional Japanese BBQ techniques.

The location at 1-08, Jalan Raja Chulan places Toriya amidst the vibrant city life, providing an inviting space that merges modern comfort with a subtle nod to traditional Japanese design. This setting is ideal for those who appreciate an intimate dining experience, whether they come for a casual lunch or a more elaborate dinner occasion.

Guests have praised the authenticity of the food, with Nick Ng highlighting the genuine Japanese flavors that shine through each bite. The menu is thoughtfully crafted; during lunchtime, you can enjoy hearty ramen, while dinners feature omakase selections, which require reservations to ensure the chef’s special offerings. This dual concept appeals to both quick midday meals and leisurely evening feasts, attracting a varied audience ranging from office workers to seasoned food enthusiasts.

Beyond yakitori, the restaurant also showcased a memorable steamboat with a rich broth that delighted diners looking for warmth and depth of flavor—demonstrating Toriya’s versatility in Japanese cuisine. While some found the noodle dishes slightly oily, the overall experience remains elevated by attentive and friendly service, creating a welcoming atmosphere that complements the culinary offerings.

For anyone seeking a taste of Japan in KL, especially fans of expertly grilled meats and thoughtfully prepared dishes, Toriya Japanese BBQ T-Lab stands out as a must-visit destination. Its commitment to authentic preparation and balanced flavors makes it more than just a meal—it’s a refined experience steeped in tradition, set in the lively heart of the city.

Serving ramen for lunch time, and omakase for dinner. Best to make reservations and confirm dinner menu before going.

The restaurant had a surprisingly quiet atmosphere for a Friday night, possibly due to its reservation-only policy — it’s run by a lovely Japanese couple, so that could be the case. The space is cozy and intimate, perfect for a slower, more personal dining experience. Portions are generous, and it truly feels like an omakase — you won’t know what’s coming next, which adds to the charm. It’s not your typical sushi-focused menu; instead, expect sashimi, wagyu, and other curated bites. While some dishes were absolute standouts, there were a few hits and misses along the way.

An interesting and unassuming place run by a Japanese husband and wife team plus a local cook, all of whom are trilingual. Service is attentive, sincere and from the heart. Food is inexpensive (ramen with drink and appetizer for RM15), and very very good. Their Dan Dan Mian is head and shoulders above the version served by Marriot's much praised Shangai Restaurant. Also tried their chicken ramen ( soup was was silky rich with collagen) and their Dry Ramen (my favourite). The quality of their broth and ramen can easily rival or surpass other fancier joints. For dinner, it's an Omakase only affair. They will require a booking of at least 1 week advance notice. Reason: they will need to import items directly from Japan just for you. True personalization. *only 1 pic to share*

This place is truly a hidden gem for affordable delicious ramen. Only RM15 for lunch set (with appetiser and ocha). Tried 2 different ramen so far - both were equally tasty! The enclosed picture is Dan Dan Mian. Soup is rich and flavourful! Ramen is not inclusive of eggs though. I usually like my ramen with add on onsen egg, unfortunately, that would cost additional RM5 - price is pretty steep for an egg.
